Polarized Lenses
Nothing is better than polarized lenses when you’re outdoors, especially for those people who are very sensitive to light.
Light travels in many different directions, and light traveling in a vertical direction is what we see. But if light reflects from an “off-vertical” source like a body of water, the hood of a car, or anything horizontal, the off-vertical light will bounce into your eye and cause glare.
Polarized lenses are manufactured to only allow vertically oriented light through the lens and into your eye. This vertical orientation blocks the horizontal light, thereby blocking glare.
Because of polarized lenses’ unique property of only allowing vertical light through, it cuts glare, enhances clarity and color, and reduces eye strain and fatigue.
Polarized lenses come in assorted colors, each with their own unique properties:
- Gray – Most popular polarized lens color. Good for general purpose and all-day use since it reduces eye fatigue and excessive light without distortion. Soothing to the eyes since it decreases the effects of light sensitivity.
- Brown – Blocks out blue light. Great for sports since they increase color contrast: your tennis ball will pop and your golf ball will stand out in the green.
- Green – Filters out blue light and makes it easier to see color. Very good for all day wear and makes it comfortable to see all day long.
Polarized lenses are the best at reducing glare, increasing comfort, and enhancing contrast. But polarized lenses do distort LCD screens like smartphones, tablets, computer and laptop screens.
Because of their many advantages, polarized lenses are more expensive than just tinted lenses but well worth the money.
